Romanesque art

With more than 250 buildings, the Romanesque heritage of Auvergne is one of the richest in France and Europe.

Five of these buildings are referred to as "Major Churches" due to the uniformity and purity of their architectural style: Notre-Dame-du-Port, Saint-Nectaire, Notre-Dame d’Orcival, Saint-Austremoine d’Issoire and Saint-Saturnin.

Other great examples of the Romanesque style are the UNESCO listed cathedral of Le Puy-en-Velay, the cloister of the Lavaudieu abbey, and the Saint-Julien basilica in Brioude, with its contemporary stained glass windows.
