This impregnable medieval residence situated ‘between rocks and volcanoes’, with its parapet walk and its unique system of defence, stands on a volcanic rock which acts as its pedestal. It is the birthplace of the illustrious House of Polignac whose eventful history has been linked with that of Le Velay and France since the Middle Ages. There is a wonderful view from the top of the 14th century keep. Open from 5th April to 31st May and from 15th September to 11th November every day (except Mondays) 10 am - 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm – 6.30 pm. Guided tours on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays; from 1st June to 14th September, open every day 9 am – 7 pm, guided tours available every day.
